Travel to Manchester

To go Manchester from Germany the obvious choice is travelling by plane.

But talking from my own experience I can say you can also travel by train. The journey (Berlin – Brüssel – London – Manchester) just takes 14 hours – one way.

Or by car / bus via France or Netherlands you can take the ferry (e.g. Calais to Dover).
For all, who don’t want to go the extra mile should choose the plane.
A quick and easy way to look for a good flight connection is searching on one of the flight search engines like
But which destination is the best for me? (Airports sorted towards distance from Manchester city centre):

Manchester Airport
Who would have thought about Manchester Airport? But there are just a few direct flight destinations in Germany. However, Ryanair and EasyJet are expanding their German footprint and Manchester is one of their hubs.
Direction to Manchester: Take the train from the airport and you arrive in no more than 15mins at Manchester Piccadilly station.

A very good alternative with direct flights from Germany with the likes of EasyJet and Ryanair.
Direction to Manchester: Take the bus to Manchester coach station Chorlton Street, it will take around 55mins (Terravision 8 GBP return)
Often the cheapest way to the UK.
The transport from the London airports to the London city centre is often more expensive than the flight fare from Germany. By choosing the bus option like Terravision (von Luton / Standstead) or EasyBus takes longer, but is cheaper than the express trains.
If you are more often in London or you are staying before or after the Manchester trip in the London area, buy in any case the Oyster Card for public transport.
Direction to Manchester: Virgin Train from London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly duration: 2,5 hours (departs every 15 – 30mins) – but book in advance and avoid peak times
Other airports:
Last but not least a couple of links for airlines with connections from Germany (sorted from cheapest to most expensive on average fares – but be sure, what you pay is what you get):
